Benham announces $2.3 million for local projects
State grants fund new play space, snow plow truck

PITTSBURGH, Dec. 18 – State Rep. Jessica Benham today announced over $2.3 million in state grant funding was awarded to projects supporting public infrastructure and services.
“These grants are about investing in the places and services our residents use every day,” said Benham, D-Allegheny. “Working closely with partners at the state and local levels, I’m proud to help deliver resources that support public safety and enhance community spaces. These projects are a great way to spend state dollars and they will enhance the lives of my constituents.”
Benham said funding was awarded as follows:
- $600,000 to Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh for the Brashear Association Inc. to construct a Creative Analytical Play Space at three vacant lots on Ibis Way (secured in collaboration with state Sen. Jay Costa).
- $301,476 to the Allegheny County Redevelopment Authority for roof replacement at New Academy Charter School (secured in collaboration with Costa).
- $119,124 to Mt. Oliver Borough to purchase a new utility truck equipped with a snow plow, dump body and salt spreader (secured in collaboration with Costa).
- $1 million to Pittsburgh City for the purchase of two new ambulances (secured in collaboration with Costa, state Sens. Lindsey Williams and Wayne Fontana, and the Allegheny House Democratic Delegation).
- $300,000 to Pittsburgh Water for the purchase of 13 new vehicles to modernize its infrastructure and improve efficiency (secured in collaboration with Costa, Williams, Fontana, and the Allegheny House Democratic Delegation).
Funds were awarded through the Local Share Account – Statewide grant program. The PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act provides for the distribution of gaming revenues through the Commonwealth Financing Authority to support projects in the public interest within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Eligible projects include acquisition, construction, renovation and rehabilitation, demolition, infrastructure, purchase of vehicles, machinery and equipment, planning, consulting and design costs related to projects, engineering, and some administrative costs.
