Deasy announces $3M in state funding for community projects

Funding will support renovations to the Pittsburgh Musical Theater, a high school gym and a community pool

PITTSBURGH, Dec. 18 – State Rep. Dan Deasy, D-Allegheny, announced today that $3 million in state grant funding has been awarded through the Commonwealth Financing Authority to support a range of projects across his legislative district.

“These projects invest in the places where our communities come together,” Deasy said. “Cultural venues and neighborhood gathering spaces are central to community life, and this funding will help keep them safe, welcoming, and accessible for everyone.”

The following projects were awarded funding:

  • $750,000 to the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh to renovate the Pittsburgh Musical Theater building, including a new elevator, an accessible entrance and features, a new patron lobby, new restrooms, a new balcony and façade improvements and upgrades to the electrical, HVAC and fire safety systems.
  • $350,000 to the Allegheny County Redevelopment Authority on behalf of Bishop Canevin High School to renovate the gymnasium. The project includes replacing the floor, installing bleachers, and upgrading the scoreboard systems.
  • $300,000 to Green Tree Borough to renovate the Green Tree Swimming Pool House, including selective demolition and asbestos abatement, plumbing, painting, electrical work, and the installation of new fixtures, flooring, lighting, doors, and partitions.
  • $300,000 to Scott Township to install a new generator for the municipal building.

Deasy also worked with state Reps. Aerion A. Abney, Emily Kinkead, Lindsay Powell, Dan Frankel, La’Tasha D. Mayes, Abigail Salisbury, Jessica Benham, and John Inglis, all D-Allegheny, to secure a $1 million investment for the City of Pittsburgh to purchase two new ambulances and $300,000 for the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority to purchase 13 new vehicles for its fleet. The new vehicles will replace outdated units and help operating costs.

The LSA funding comes from the PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act, which provides for the distribution of gaming revenues through the CFA to support projects in the public interest and improve the quality of life of citizens in the community.
