Deasy applauds nearly $1M investment in local recreation and conservation projects

PITTSBURGH, Nov. 12 – State Rep. Dan Deasy, D-Allegheny, today announced nearly $1 million in funding for three local community recreational and conservation projects through the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Community Conservation Partnerships Program.

The funded projects include:

  • $109,200 to Riverlife to prepare a study for the development of approximately 2.2 miles of the West End Trail in Pittsburgh from the West End Bridge to Crane Avenue.
  • $289,800 to Rosslyn Farms Borough for the rehabilitation of Parrish Park, including the construction of a retaining wall and pedestrian walkway, installation of play equipment and required safety surfacing and fencing. The project also includes ADA access, landscaping and other site improvements.
  • $600,000 to Pittsburgh Conservation Corps for the coordination and funding of an Urban Wood Reuse Project and Urban and Community Forestry workforce development program.

"These projects show how important community conservation initiatives are to improving our public spaces, creating more opportunities for outdoor fun, and boosting job development," Deasy said. "I am pleased to see the state invest in projects that encourage folks to spend time outdoors and protect the green spaces within our communities.”

The Community Conservation Partnerships Program, also known as C2P2, assists local governments and organizations with funding for projects related to parks, recreation and conservation. C2P2 programs are linked with other DCNR efforts to conserve historic resources, protect water quality, enhance tourism, improve physical and mental health, and foster community development.
