BRADDOCK, May 10 – New funding of $120,000 from the state Department of Community and Economic Development will help ensure that the new regional police force for Rankin, North Braddock and East Pittsburgh has the resources needed to protect those communities, state Rep. Abigail Salisbury, D-Allegheny, announced today.
Salisbury said that the grant awarded under the Municipal Assistance Program will fund essential department needs.
“Police and local officials in Rankin, North Braddock and East Pittsburgh deserve a lot of credit for exercising the vision and planning needed to combine forces into a new regional police department,” Salisbury said. “But like other police and first responder agencies around the state, the new department faces the challenge of securing the needed staff power, training, tech equipment and other resources on a limited budget. The new funding will help ensure these frontline heroes have the resources they need to keep our communities safe.”
Salisbury said that in addition, the Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County was awarded $100,000 to create an implementable comprehensive plan update – a project that will entail a 25-year plan for the county with a focus on county resources, sustainability, communications and culture.
The funding is part of a package of grants awarded under MAP, which is administered by DCED.
