Kulik: $390,000 in state grants awarded to local projects

CORAOPOLIS, Jan. 16 – State Rep. Anita Kulik, D-Allegheny, announced today that two projects in Carnegie and McKees Rocks received a total of $390,000 in state funding.

Projects awarded funding today include:

  • $150,000 to Carnegie Borough to rehabilitate the Carnegie Main Street Bridge, which was originally built in 1967.
  • $240,000 to restore the VFW Post 418 Building in McKees Rocks. The project includes replacing the building’s roof, two large restrooms, furnace and A/C systems, and parking lot repaving. Interior building rehab work also includes repairing damage from the leaking roof, drywall replacement, and painting.

“With this funding, we may rehabilitate infrastructure in Carnegie Borough and the VFW Post 418 Building in McKees Rocks, as well as support the services provided to veterans that bravely fought to defend our country’s freedom,” Kulik said. “By repairing the Carnegie Main Street Bridge, we make our roadways safer for those traveling through our area.”

These grants are made possible by the Gaming Economic Development Tourism Fund, which falls under the Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County and the state Commonwealth Financing Authority. The grants provide financial assistance to entities to facilitate economic development projects in Allegheny County.

Established in 2004 by the Pennsylvania Race Horse Development and Gaming Act, GEDTF appropriates funds from gaming revenue to invest in economic development. Act 13 of 2012 established the Marcellus Legacy Fund, which provides funding for GTRP.
