PITTSBURGH, Oct. 12 – After the rally on Friday, Oct. 6 for Pittsburgh Post-Gazette staff on strike, Rep. La’Tasha D. Mayes, D-Allegheny, affirmed that she stands in solidarity with staff on strike.
The strike first began Thursday, Oct. 6, 2022. Striking Post-Gazette staff organized outside of the newsroom’s North Shore office at 1 p.m. Friday to mark one year on strike.
“I stand in solidarity with striking Post-Gazette staff as they continue to fight for a fair contract,” Mayes said. “For a year now, the Post-Gazette and Block Communications continuously refuse to engage in collective bargaining, causing staff on strike to lose wages and benefits that impact their livelihood.”
Mayes said she would not acknowledge the legitimacy of the Post-Gazette as a trustworthy news organization until Post-Gazette management engages in collective bargaining with staff on strike.
The Newspaper Guild of Pittsburgh went on strike Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2022.
