Venkat applauds over $2 million in state grants

Will improve multiple projects across the community

HARRISBURG, March 17 – State Rep. Arvind Venkat, D-Allegheny, announced today that nearly $2.2 million in state grants is being awarded to the community for critical projects to improve the quality of life of the residents.

“Local communities best understand their needs in infrastructure, public services and community resources,” Venkat said. “I am thrilled to announce that these grants have been awarded after significant advocacy by local leaders, fellow legislators and my office.

“These grants will help out our community in many ways, including updating the town hall building in McCandless and making upgrades to Northland Public Library, which will have a positive impact for the public,” he continued.

Beneficiaries of these grants are:

  • $500,000 to Franklin Park Borough to construct a public works garage.
  • $500,000 to the Northland Public Library in renovations to provide a safer and more enjoyable experience for its patrons.
  • $500,000 for the McCandless town hall to remove the aging and inefficient HVAC system, remove and install new ceilings to accommodate the new HVAC system, as well as install new vents and lighting and a reconfiguration of the sprinkler system to accommodate the new ceilings.
  • $300,000 for the Phase 2 renovations of the Ben Avon Borough building project.
  • $250,000 to replace the existing Clearview Bridge located in Hampton Township.
  • $149,905 for repairs to the sanitary sewer lining for lines located in Ben Avon Heights Borough.

The grants are made possible by the Pennsylvania Race Horse Development and Gaming Act (Act 71 of 2004) and provide for the distribution of gaming revenues through the Commonwealth Financing Authority to support projects in the public interest within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
