Cholesterol Education Month, LDL-C Day resolution reported out of House Health Committee

7.9% of Pennsylvanians were diagnosed with cardiovascular disease in 2021

HARRISBURG, Sept. 27 – Today, the House Health Committee reported out of committee H.R. 144, which would recognize Cholesterol Education Month and Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Day in Pennsylvania, Rep. Arvind Venkat announced.

House Resolution 144 would designate the month of September 2023 as Cholesterol Education Month and Sept. 1, 2023 as LDL-C Awareness Day in Pennsylvania.

“As 36.6% of Pennsylvanians experience elevated cholesterol levels and elevated LDL-C contributes to the risk of cardiovascular disease, it’s important to me, as both an emergency physician and a legislator, that we inform the public about the risks of high cholesterol levels,” said Venkat, D-Allegheny. “With this resolution, we can educate Pennsylvanians so they may improve their overall health.”

The committee unanimously reported the resolution out of committee. It now awaits a consideration in the House chamber.
