Memorial Day Office Closure
Monday will mark Memorial Day, when we remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our nation.
In observance of Memorial Day, my office will be closed tomorrow at noon through Monday, May 25. We will reopen for regular hours on Tuesday, May 26.
Helping Workers Obtain Affordable Health Insurance
As a physician-legislator, I know how critical it is that we address the rising number of uninsured Pennsylvanians. I am happy to share that the House Finance Committee held a hearing on HB 2550, legislation I am working on with Reps. Mazzocco and Samuelson to help small business employees obtain affordable, high quality health insurance. Visit this page to hear my remarks from the hearing and this page to read more about the bill.

Around the District and Community
It’s National EMS Week. I had the privilege of attending the McCandless-Franklin Park Ambulance Authority open house and congratulating our EMS heroes on being named 2026 Pennsylvania Ambulance Service of the Year! As a physician-legislator, I am proud to be a strong advocate for state grant support for our local EMS agencies and to work with them as an emergency physician.
I recently attended a legislative breakfast hosted by the Conference of Allegheny Providers and heard from families, providers and other advocates about the challenges we face caring for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I am committed to championing state policies to help these residents thrive.
Updates from the Last Two Months
Due to House rules around how I can contact you in the time leading up to an election, you may not have received my emails during the last two months. Below, you can find updates on some of the most important work I have done in that time for our community.
If you would like to continue receiving my emails, even in the time leading up to elections, you can subscribe here.
I welcomed $65,000 in grant funding to keep our community safe. These grants will fund security investments for Temple Ohav Shalom and sexual assault education at La Roche University, both in McCandless.
I also welcomed $300,000 in grants for our first responders, including the McCandless-Franklin Park Ambulance Authority and the Peebles Volunteer Fire Department.
I introduced several new pieces of legislation, while others advanced through the legislative process. These include:
Finally, my office hosted our most successful shred event yet – filling two trucks and helping over 300 people safely dispose of sensitive documents! Our next shredding event will be Saturday, September 12 in Ohio Township, so look for more details later this summer.
Honoring our First Responders and Veterans
McCandless will be hosting a memorial ceremony for our local veterans and first responders on Friday, May 22 at the McCandless Franklin Park Ambulance Authority Station, located at 9925 Grubbs Rd. in Wexford. Please RSVP by scanning the QR code or emailing Michael.wholihan@mfpaa.org.
PRT Wants to Hear from You
Pittsburgh Regional Transit is working on the Bus Line Refresh project, which will better align bus service with the current and projected needs of the region. They will be hosting several pop-ups and community meetings where residents can share concerns and suggestions for PRT’s future service.
You can find the dates in the graphic above. You can also learn more about the project here.
Park Ranger for a Day
Visit PA has launched “PA Ranger for a Day,” which gives one lucky winner the opportunity to experience Pennsylvania’s state parks through the eyes of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources staff who keep them running.
Running through June 12, residents and visitors alike can enter for the chance to win a full-day, DCNR staff-led experience at one of the Commonwealth’s most stunning state parks. You can learn more about our state parks and enter the sweepstake here.
Dept. of Aging Older Artists Showcase
The Department of Aging will be accepting submissions for the Older Artists of Pennsylvania Showcase through May 24. Up to 30 pieces from artists aged 60 and older will be selected for display in the State Capitol in August.
This year, the showcase will specifically highlight older adults living with dementia, recognizing that artistic expression can be a powerful tool for connection, identity, and storytelling. Submissions are encouraged by all eligible artists, including older adults living with dementia and those in congregate care settings. Submissions can be made here.
Finally, please remember that my talented staff can help you with a variety of state-related matters – from filing an application for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program to obtaining a disability placard or senior bus pass, just to name a few. Contact us or stop by to see how we can help!
