A Successful Shred Event!

With two trucks and extra staff, we were able to help 325 people shred their sensitive documents on Saturday! Many thanks to Franklin Park Borough for hosting our largest shredding event yet!

Our next shredding event will be Saturday, September 12 in Ohio Township. Look out for more details in late summer!

Sixteen Years of the Affordable Care Act – and other Harrisburg Updates

Video

The Affordable Care Act was signed into law this week in 2010. As an emergency physician, I have seen up close the importance of this law, with the number of uninsured patients that I care for decreasing dramatically. I remain committed to expanding healthcare access under the ACA.

I had the opportunity to join Protect Our Care to discuss the importance of the ACA, and you can find my remarks in the video above.

Geothermal energy is an always-on, clean energy source. I am proud to partner with bipartisan colleagues to sponsor H.B. 2076, which would create a framework for developing this energy source in Pennsylvania. You can find my full remarks on the legislation from this week’s Energy Committee meeting above.

It was great to welcome Rowan Wechsler, a student with the University of Pittsburgh Institute of Politics, to the Capitol as part of their Legislator for a Day program. I always appreciate showing the next generation the work in the People’s House.

I was proud to speak during the Rehabilitation & Community Providers Association’s advocacy day and highlight the importance of investments in human services and the danger posed by cuts imposed by Washington.

On Wednesday, I had the honor of offering the opening invocation before the State House from the Isha Upanishad, a Sanskrit Hindu text that delves into knowledge of the self.

Mentored Youth Trout Day this Saturday

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission will be holding Mentored Youth Trout Day on Saturday, March 28, from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. This is a statewide event open to youth anglers ages 15 and under and their licensed adult mentors on hundreds of waters in all 67 counties.

This serves to allow young anglers to have fun while learning fishing skills a week before large crowds begin fishing next week for the busy Statewide Opening Day of Trout Season.

Honor our Women Veterans

The Departments of Transportation and Military and Veterans Affairs are celebrating Women’s History Month by reminding drivers that purchasing a women veterans’ license plate supports programs assisting the more than 62,000 women veterans living in Pennsylvania.

Four different women veteran recognition plates are available. Details on those and all other veteran plates can be found here.

DMVA Mobile Office Hours

The Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs announced that its mobile veterans outreach team is available free of charge throughout the state to assist veterans. The team helps veterans obtain information and start benefit claim paperwork with the support of accredited veterans service officers.

Governor’s Survey for Women in Pennsylvania

The Governor’s Advisory Commission on Women has launched a new digital survey to gather input from women across Pennsylvania. This survey is part of the Shapiro Administration’s upcoming State of the Woman Report, a comprehensive, data-driven effort to assess the status of women throughout the state.

The survey, which can be found here, will be open through May 30 and will collect insight from Pennsylvania women on their experiences and priorities to better inform the Administration’s policies that impact women. The survey is also available in Spanish and Chinese.

There will also be a statewide listening tour to further engage with the women of Pennsylvania, including a stop in Pittsburgh on May 14.

Finally, please remember that my talented staff can help you with a variety of state-related matters – from filing an application for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program to obtaining a disability placard or senior bus pass, just to name a few. Contact us or stop by to see how we can help!
