Takac to hold 5 listening sessions to hear directly from community on impact of closing SCI Rockview and Quehanna Boot Camp

HARRISBURG, Feb. 25 -- Concerned about the impact the closures of SCI Rockview and Quehanna Boot Camp will have on the region, state Rep. Paul Takac will host several community forums to gain input from area residents on precisely how they will be impacted so he may better tell their stories to the Shapiro administration.

As part of his budget proposal for the 2025-26 fiscal year, Gov. Josh Shapiro recommended closing two state prisons and two community corrections centers. Days later, a state Corrections Department steering committee recommended that the two prisons in Centre and Clearfield counties be closed.

“For generations, Rockview and Quehanna have provided good-paying union jobs with benefits to over 900 of our hardworking friends, neighbors and loved ones,” Takac said. “And they, in turn, have supported our local economy and communities. I understand the importance of saving money, but any decision with that kind of potential impact must be a discussion, not a dictate.

“That’s why I’m holding districtwide listening forums on these proposed shutdowns to hear directly from those who would be affected by a shutdown of one or both of these facilities.”

All forums will be held from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.:

Friday, March 21 -- Milesburg Community Center, 101 Mill St., Milesburg.

Thursday, March 27 -- Howard United Methodist Church, 144 Main St., Howard.

Monday, March 31 -- Benner Township Municipal Building, 1224 Buffalo Run Road, Bellefonte.

Wednesday, April 2 -- Schlow Public Library, 211 S. Allen St., State College.

Monday, April 7 -- Snow Shoe Township Building, 268 Old Side Road, Clarence.

“I will be there to hear your stories and get your feedback. I am committed to bringing those views back to the governor and his team so that they understand exactly what’s at stake,” Takac said. “I’m going to fight like hell for your best interests, to minimize any negative impacts, and to maximize all the resources and benefits available.”

Anyone who would like to provide input but is unable to make one of the forums should call Takac’s office at 814-308-0569 or email RepTakac@pahouse.net with his or her story, concerns or comments. Residents may also contact the PA Department of Corrections directly at ra-crdocclose@pa.gov or by calling 888-316-8950 and leaving a voicemail.

Takac said that other elected officials, community organizations and key stakeholders also will be invited to attend the forums.
