NORRISTOWN, April 15 – ACLAMO, a Norristown nonprofit offering culturally responsive youth development and violence prevention services to Latino families, will be able to strengthen its programming thanks to $150,000 in state funds, state Rep. Greg Scott, D-Montgomery, announced today.
“ACLAMO is a significant resource for Latino and immigrant families living in Norristown and our surrounding area,” said Scott. “Managing life in a new country and largely encountering a new or second language is difficult for adults – for kids, the challenges are even greater. I’m proud to see this funding awarded to an organization that treats youth development with care and respect.”
As part of its youth development and violence prevention services, ACLAMO provides academic support, mentoring, case management, and social services that help with issues such as economic insecurity, language barriers, and limited after school opportunities. According to Scott, this grant will support ACLAMO’s following initiatives:
- Out-of-School Time Mentoring Program, for grades 1-8.
- ADELANTE college and career readiness program, for middle and high school students.
- Summer Bridge/Teen Club Program, which operates during the summer months.
All three programs offer relationship-centered academic support, bilingual mentoring, STEAM enrichment, leadership development, and supportive adult supervision.
This grant was awarded as part of the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency’s Violence Intervention and Prevention grant program, which supports initiatives that address community violence in areas of the commonwealth with high rates of gun-related violent crime and injury.
