Scott: Residents need to reapply for Medicaid or CHIP by April 1 or risk losing coverage

HARRISBURG, March 13 – State Rep. Greg Scott, D-Montgomery, reminded Medicaid -- also known in Pennsylvania as Medical Assistance -- and CHIP recipients to renew their coverage by April 1 to maintain coverage due to recent changes in federal law.

Under new federal law, continuous MA eligibility will be separated from the COVID-19 public health emergency and will end on April 1, 2023. 

“I urge Medicaid and CHIP recipients to renew their coverage by April 1 so they don’t risk losing life-sustaining coverage,” Scott said. “Residents should take a few minutes now to make sure their personal information is correct, so the renewal application is sent to the right address and to ensure receipt of renewal notices and important benefit updates.”

Residents should perform the following actions to make sure they receive their Medical Assistance or CHIP renewal applications in the mail:

  1. Make sure contact information is up to date. If a resident’s address has changed since 2020, they should notify their local county assistance office, use the myCOMPASS PA mobile app, or visit PA’s COMPASS website at dhs.pa.gov/Compass to update their contact information.

 2.   Check their mail. The renewal packet will be coming in the mail.

 3.   Complete and return the renewal by the due date printed in the renewal packet. There are four ways to complete and submit your renewal:

  • By mail — Complete and return the forms by mailing them back in the provided envelope.
  • Online — Complete the renewal online in COMPASS.
  • Telephone — Call 1-866-550-4355 to complete the renewal over the phone.
  • In-Person — Complete and submit the renewal in person at any local county assistance office.

Residents can make sure their information is up to date and report any changes by going online to dhs.pa.gov/COMPASS, using the myCOMPASS PA mobile app, or calling toll-free 1-877-395-8930.
