Sports champion and humanitarian Arthur Ashe once called true heroism “the urge to serve others at whatever cost.” Today, I’m reflecting on the heroism of those who gave their lives on behalf of our country – and also remembering the sacrifices of the loved ones they left behind. May their memory be a blessing.
Please be aware that our office will be closed today in observance of Memorial Day. We will reopen Tuesday for regular business hours.
Mobile office May 26
Our staff will be hosting a mobile office on Tuesday, May 26 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Swissvale Library, located at 1800 Monongahela Ave. If you are seeking help with a Property Tax/Rent Rebate, please remember to bring the items listed above.
On a related note, the state recently extended the PTRR filing deadline to Dec. 31. It’s still best to apply early – especially if you are a first-time applicant – to ensure that the Department of Revenue has time to verify and process your application. You can read more about the program here.
Around the District
Our district office director, Aaron, attended Remake Learning Days at Edgewood Elementary STEAM Academy, where students demonstrated robotics and other science projects. Representatives from U.S. Steel read to a group of students and assisted them with a project. Pittsburgh Penguins mascot, Iceburgh, also joined the fun!
Our staffer Leslie recently attended “Coffee with Cops” at the Edgewood Center Retirement Residence, where residents got to chat with Police Chief Sylvan Altieri and other members of the Edgewood Police Department. Chief Altieri also spoke to the group about safety and how to avoid scams.
Leslie also attended the second of three public input meetings on the Wilkinsburg Comprehensive Plan, which will guide the borough’s decision-making and investments over the next 10 to 20 years. Associate Urban Designer and Planner Ashley Cox led the meeting, and Mayor Dontae Comans delivered opening remarks. Check back for information about the next meeting.
Western PA School for the Deaf elementary students will perform Finding Nemo for Kids, with two shows on Saturday, May 30 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tickets are available here and must be purchased in advance. There will be no tickets available at the door.
Are you interested in learning more about Pittsburgh’s 2027 budget? Register to attend one of the sessions below, hosted by Mayor Corey O’Connor.
