Meet Jack Herr (again)

I’m back in the district! After nine months of teaching English in Austria, it feels great to be working at the office again, helping my fellow constituents solve their problems. I’ll be here for the foreseeable future, so please stop by, say hello, and burden me with your issues (just joking). I’m looking forward to our free Shredding Event on Aug. 3 (more information down below), and we are working hard on putting together this year’s Senior Fair on Sept. 19, among other exciting community events. To those who I’ve already seen, thanks for the warm welcome, and to everyone else, I hope to see you soon!

State Programs and Other Events

Have your voice heard

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission announced two telephonic hearings scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 14 to gather public input on the rate increases proposed by Aqua Pennsylvania Inc. and Aqua Pennsylvania Wastewater Inc.

If you wish to testify at one of the telephonic public input hearings, you are encouraged to pre-register by 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13. Failure to pre-register could result in you not being called to testify by the PUC judge.

To pre-register, you can email the PUC Judge’s Legal Assistant, Christina M. Biggica, at cbiggica@pa.gov, or call the judge’s office at (717) 787-1191 and provide the following information:

  • Your first and last name.
  • The phone number you will be using to call into the public input hearing.
  • A phone number where you can be reached prior to the hearing if we need to contact you.
  • Your email address.

New Smishing Scam

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is advising that a smishing scam is again being sent to random individuals, aiming to deceive them to share their personal financial information to settle outstanding toll amounts.

The texts purport to be from “Pennsylvania Turnpike Toll Services” and center around urgent requests with the account that would result in additional charges if the overdue balance does not get settled. Similar scams have been reported by toll agencies across the country over the past several days.

People who receive an unsolicited text, email, or similar message suggesting it is from the PA Turnpike or another toll agency should not click on the link. E-ZPass account holders and Toll by Plate customers can use approved safe methods to check their accounts such as the official PA Turnpike E-ZPass website or the PA Toll Pay app available from the Apple App Store, or Google Play store.

Those who receive a fraudulent text can file a complaint with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at here. That is a site dedicated to sharing information on Internet crimes across law enforcement agencies.

To learn more about ways to stay safe from scams, visit the turnpike's Security & Fraud page.
