Fighting back against COVID-19 through mitigation, community support

Governor Tom Wolf recently communicated to all of us in the legislature and across Pennsylvania the current state of our fight against this novel coronavirus and the toll it is taking on our families, businesses, students and seniors.

I also recently spoke to Dr. Val Arkoosh, Chair of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners, and she likewise relayed concern about the same heavy burden from this long pandemic fight.

Our hospitals are approaching breaking points, and our frontline workers are feeling the strain. The numbers are daunting, but the stories behind them are what really breaks my heart.

To help fight back against this deadly disease, Governor Wolf just announced additional safety restrictions aimed at slowing its spread and overloading our institutions. As you celebrate the holiday season with your family, please take these measures to heart and do all that you can to keep your family and mine safe.

While you’re at it, please think about those who have lost jobs, housing or family to COVID-19. Consider supporting your favorite small businesses and dining operators. Take care of your mental health and start a conversation with a professional if you are even curious if it could help.

Our community has been there for each other all year long. We need to step up yet again.
