Nelson announces grant requests funded in eastern Montgomery County
HARRISBURG, Dec. 20 – State Rep. Napoleon Nelson announced four projects in eastern Montgomery County will receive state funding of over $750,000 through the Commonwealth Financing Authority.
Springfield Township will receive $404,561 for storm sewer improvements along Terminal Avenue through the PA Small Water and Sewer Grant program.
Cheltenham Township will receive $363,786 for stormwater improvements at Robinson Park through the H2O PA grant.
Jenkintown’s Hiway Theatre Inc. will receive $20,662 in assistance from the COVID-19 ARPA PA Arts and Culture Recovery program for operating, marketing, and programming expenses.
The Holocaust Awareness Museum and Education Center in Elkins Park will receive $15,077 under the COVID-19 ARPA PA Arts and Culture Recovery Program.
“A good stormwater management system is a win-win because it helps mitigate environmental impacts from climate change, but it also helps the local economy by curbing flood damage and the economic hit that goes with it,” Nelson said. “I was happy to help Springfield and Cheltenham receive funding for these worthy projects.
“The arts play an important role in our cultural identity and the Hiway Theatre has been a local beacon for our area’s arts scene. I was pleased to see it get this funding.
“The Holocaust Awareness Museum and Education Center plays a very important role in the community’s education, and I was glad to see the museum get much-needed funding.”
The H2O Grant provides for single-year and multi-year grants for the construction of drinking water, sanitary sewer and storm sewer projects; the construction or renovation of flood control projects; and the repair or rehabilitation of high-hazard unsafe dams.
The Small Water and Sewer program funds activities to assist with the construction, improvement, expansion, or rehabilitation or repair of a water supply system, sanitary sewer system, storm sewer system, or flood control projects.
The COVID-19 ARPA PA Arts and Culture Recovery program was created to provide grants to nonprofit arts and culture organizations, local arts and culture districts and arts and culture professionals located in the Commonwealth to ensure the stability and recovery of the Commonwealth’s arts and culture sector from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nelson represents the 154th Legislative District comprised of Cheltenham, Jenkintown and Springfield in Montgomery County
