Remembering Jesse Jackson, Looking out for our Neighbors, and more...

Lately, I have been thinking about how different kinds of milestones can all nudge us in the same direction.

On one hand, many of us just spent time cheering on Olympic athletes, marveling at the kind of discipline it takes to train for years for a moment that lasts seconds. On the other, members of our community are entering sacred seasons like Lent and the upcoming Ramadan, times centered on reflection, generosity, and renewal.

While those moments may look very different, they share a common thread. They remind us that growth does not happen overnight. It takes intention, commitment, and often the support of a community that keeps us going when motivation fades. (I suspect even Olympic athletes have mornings where they would rather hit snooze.)

Here in our district and across the state, I see that same spirit in action every day. It is in neighbors looking out for one another, in volunteers giving their time, and in residents who stay engaged because they believe in the future of this community. That shared investment is what keeps our neighborhoods strong.

As always, my office remains here to serve you, and I am grateful to be part of a community that understands the value of showing up for one another.

Lent

Observing the Season of Lent

As many in our community begin the season of Lent, I want to extend my wishes for a meaningful and reflective time to all who observe.

Lent is a period of prayer, sacrifice, and renewal for many Christians, offering an opportunity to reflect on faith, service, and compassion for others. These values help guide how we show up for our neighbors and our communities every day.

To everyone observing Lent, I wish you a thoughtful and renewing season.

Ramadan Kareem

Wishing a Peaceful Ramadan to All Who Observe

Ramadan began earlier this week, and I want to extend warm wishes to all who are observing this holy month.

Ramadan is a time for reflection, prayer, generosity, and community. It is also an opportunity to recommit to compassion, service, and care for our neighbors, values that strengthen all of our communities.

To everyone in our district and beyond observing Ramadan, I wish you a peaceful and meaningful month.

PA Legislative Black Caucus with Rev. Jesse Jackson

Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus Issues
Statement on the Death of Rev. Jesse Jackson

This week, the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus issued a statement following the passing of the Rev. Jesse Jackson, a lifelong civil rights leader, protégé of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and two-time presidential candidate. As Chair of the Caucus, I joined my colleagues in recognizing the profound impact Rev. Jackson had on the fight for justice, equality, and opportunity in our nation.

Rev. Jackson’s work reminded us that faith must be paired with action and that lasting change is built through courage, persistence, and community. Because of his leadership, generations of Americans have had greater opportunity to be heard, to lead, and to demand dignity.

We honor his legacy by continuing the work he devoted his life to, lifting our communities, speaking truth, and never losing sight of hope.
