Munroe secures state funding for local utility project

HARRISBURG, Oct 23 – State Rep. Brian Munroe announced a $1 million state grant for the North Wales Water Authority through the Local Share Account Statewide Program.

The NWWA will use the grant to help fund its Shetland Drive water tank renovation in Warrington.

Originally installed in 1974, the Shetland Drive water tank is in urgent need of reconditioning. This includes a comprehensive inspection, necessary spot repairs and a complete repainting. Without the inspection, the tank would be taken out of service until funding is available, which could lead to increased fees for customers.

LSA funds will be allocated for renovation and inspection expenses.

The total project cost is $1,167,436, with $167,436 already committed from the North Wales Water Authority.

“Investing in the Shetland Drive water tank project is crucial for ensuring reliable water service for our community,” Munroe said. “This project not only addresses essential repairs but also safeguards public health and infrastructure. Securing state funding is vital to complete this renovation, preventing potential disruptions and additional costs for local residents.”

Administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, the LSA allocates gaming revenue to support projects that improve the quality of life of citizens in the Commonwealth.

“The funding obtained through the assistance of Rep. Munroe will allow us to have the tank inspected, refurbished, repainted and placed back into service to the community – at little cost to the ratepayers,” said NWWA Executive Director Robert C. Bender.

The NWWA serves over 25,000 customers across seven municipalities in Bucks and Montgomery counties.

Munroe represents the 144th Legislative District comprised of Ivyland, Warminster, Warrington and part of New Britain Township in Bucks County.
