Brian's Briefing for Feb. 28: Looking to expand mass transit in Warminster

Dear Neighbor:

I wanted to share some exciting updates on transportation and community events happening in our area. Recently, I had the opportunity to discuss the DART bus program, a vital regional transportation service, and I'm working hard to expand it into Warminster. This ties in perfectly with SEPTA’s offerings, which provide easy travel options for those heading to the Philadelphia Flower Show and for seniors looking to take advantage of free rides across the region.

I'll also touch on some great local opportunities to get involved, from free admission to Graeme Park to volunteering with Mitzvah Circle.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns regarding state government. You may do so simply by replying to this email, or by calling my office at (215) 323-6997.

DART conversation hits the bull’s eye

Ann’s Choice graciously hosted me, my staff, and representatives from Bucks County Transport so that we could discuss the Doylestown Area Rapid Transportation bus program.

The DART bus program is a regional transportation service that provides transportation to Bucks County residents for only $1, and to seniors for free. I have been hard at work in Harrisburg advocating for more funding so that we can extend this amazing program into Warminster.

Special thank you to the staff at Ann’s Choice, especially Tina Ruzzi, the community resource manager, and to all the residents that attended and voiced valuable feedback about this program.

I look forward to continuing my advocacy for the extension of this fantastic program.

Take SEPTA to the Flower Show

Those interested in attending the Philadelphia Flower Show, which begins Saturday and runs through Sunday, March 9, may wish to use SEPTA to get to the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

SEPTA has provided this page to keep its riders up to date with services related to the Flower Show.

If you have not done so already, residents 65-and-older may stop by my office at 1410A West Street Road in Warminster to apply for a free SEPTA Senior Fare Card or renewal. Anyone 65 or older is eligible for the Senior Fare Card to travel on SEPTA for free. This covers all SEPTA transportation in Pennsylvania, whether in or around Philadelphia, or between surrounding suburbs.

The (pot)hole story

This winter has been tough on our roads, and both our office and PennDOT are aware of the presence of potholes throughout Bucks County.

Next week, two crews will be dispatched to Warminster to repair “potholes, sinkholes, and other pavement conditions.”

If you notice any potholes or road issues in our district, please email us at repmunroe@pahouse.net, and we will report them to PennDOT accordingly.

Free admission to Graeme Park

The Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission will celebrate the Commonwealth’s 344th birthday on Sunday, March 9, with free admission to many of the historic sites and museums, including Graeme Park in Horsham.

Lending a helping hand

Earlier this week, I joined state Reps. Melissa Cerrato, Nancy Guenst, Jim Prokopiak, Liz Hanbidge, Joe Ciresi, Tina Davis, Leanne Krueger, Lisa Borowski, and Jennifer O'Mara at Mitzvah Circle in Lansdale to volunteer to package care boxes for those in need in our communities.

This wonderful organization is at an impressive new location and has wonderful volunteers that do the work, day in and day out. It is greatly appreciated!

Whether it’s shoes, clothes, cleaning, supplies, plates, and utensils, etc., this organization does everything they can to meet the needs of the most vulnerable in our community.

Remote Office Hours

To make my office’s constituent services as widely available as possible, I've established remote office hours at local township buildings around the district.

We are at the following locations from 10 a.m. – noon on the days indicated:

  • Warminster Township Building: First Tuesday every month; next is March 4
  • Ivyland Borough: Second Tuesday every month; next is March 11
  • Warrington Township Building: Third Tuesday every month; next is March 18
  • Warminster Library: Third Wednesday every month; next is March 19

Specialty office hours

To help focus on specific needs, my staff and I have established specialty hours where outside experts come in to help guide our residents.  An appointment is needed for these hours. Please call (215) 323-6997 to schedule.

  • Human Services (with the Bucks County Hub), Final Tuesday every month; next is Feb. 25
  • Advance Care Planning, First Wednesday every month; next is  March 5
  • Veterans Services (9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.)  Second Monday every month; next is March 10

Until next time...

I hope you found this edition of my e-newsletter useful. I’d love your feedback on what parts you find valuable and how we could improve – please email your thoughts to me at RepMunroe@pahouse.net.
