Madsen applauds SEPTA investment, highlights benefits for Steelton

HARRISBURG, Nov. 25 – State Rep. Dave Madsen, D-Dauphin, issued the following statement in response to Gov. Josh Shapiro’s announcement of a $153 million investment in SEPTA:

“Governor Shapiro’s decision to invest in infrastructure projects creates significant opportunities for Dauphin and Cleaveland Cliffs Steelworks. The increased demand for high-quality materials positions Cleaveland Cliffs as a key supplier and ensures that Pennsylvania’s steel industry plays a central role in supporting these improvements.

“This investment will bring direct economic benefits to Steelton by generating jobs, increasing activity at the mill, and providing a boost to local businesses that rely on this industry. It also highlights the importance of investing in local resources and industries to drive economic growth and strengthen our region’s manufacturing base. Steelton has always been a hub of hard work and innovation, and this partnership ensures our community continues to play a vital role in the future of Pennsylvania’s infrastructure.

“The increase in economic activity in the area will also support good-paying union jobs that are the backbone of Dauphin County’s economy. By increasing demand for materials produced at Cleaveland Cliffs, more workers will have access to stable, family-sustaining employment. These jobs not only strengthen individual households but also generate increased tax revenue for low-income communities like Steelton. These taxes will help fund essential public services and uplift neighborhoods that have historically faced economic challenges. Supporting local industries means investing in the people and communities that drive our economy forward.”
