OFFICE CLOSED FOR MLK DAY
My office will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. As we reflect on King’s contributions to civil rights and social change, we must also encourage others to embrace the spirit of unity and community service that he embodied. Normal office hours will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
MY *NEW* COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS
Committee assignments have arrived for the new legislative session! I’m excited to announce that I will be serving on the Labor & Industry Committee, in addition to my continued service on the Judiciary, Appropriations, Agriculture & Rural Affairs, and Human Services committees, for the 2025-26 Legislative Term in the PA House.
TOMORROW – OPEN HOUSE AT THE BEHAVIOR INSTITUTE
Tomorrow, on Saturday, Jan. 18, The Behavior Institute is hosting an open house from noon to 2 p.m. at 824 California Ave. in Avalon. It’s a great opportunity to meet their director, explore their space, and learn more about the therapy programs they offer for individuals and families in our community.
FARM-TO-TABLE ON THE NORTHSIDE
Please join me in congratulating Lisa Freeman on the grand opening of Freeman Family Farm Store in Manchester! While I wasn’t able to attend the opening event, I’m happy my staff was there with PA Department of Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding to celebrate this momentous occasion.
Lisa is an inspirational leader in Pittsburgh’s urban agriculture space and I wish her great success in her endeavors!
LOCAL STUDENTS COMPETING TO DESIGN “I VOTED” STICKERS
Four North Hills High School students are finalists in Allegheny County’s “I Voted” Sticker Contest! The winning sticker will be available to county voters at the polls in this year’s primary and general elections. Good luck to all the designers!
Vote for your favorite sticker on the county website.
LOVE YOUR DOG – LICENSE YOUR DOG
Licensing your dog is one of the best ways to keep them safe! If your dog gets lost, a current license is the fastest way to get your dog back home. Our state law requires pet owners to license dogs. If you don’t license your dog, you could be cited with a fine.
Allegheny County residents can visit the County Treasurer’s website to purchase a dog license.
HOW TO TEST FOR RADON
Radon is the second-leading cause of lung cancer in the United States — it’ s an odorless gas found in soil that can enter your home through cracks in the foundation. January is National Radon Action Month and is the perfect time to get proactive. You have the power to reduce radon in your home and safeguard your health.
Learn how to test your home for radon here.
FELLOWSHIP FOR PA STUDENTS
Applications are now open for PA House Legislative Fellowship Program’s Summer 2025 semester!
The fellowship is based in our state Capitol, where fellows are assigned to work in House committees or PA House leadership offices and are compensated for their work. Fellows will have opportunities to draft and present their own legislation, attend meet-and-greets with various public officials and staff, and tour some of the Commonwealth’s historic public spaces.

APPLY NOW FOR A REBATE ON RENT OR PROPERTY TAXES
The 2025 filing period for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program has officially begun! Last year, more than 550,000 seniors and people with disabilities received over $311 million in assistance through PTRR.
This program has made it easier for many of our older friends and neighbors in Allegheny County to stay in their homes and afford groceries, medicine, and so much more.
Contact my office today to see if you’re eligible for a rebate – we’ll also check to see what other state programs and services are available for you!
