Kinsey to host public safety meeting to focus on solutions to violence uptick in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 21 – State Rep. Stephen Kinsey, D-Phila., will host a public safety meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28 at Martin Luther King High School, located at 6100 Stenton Ave.

The meeting is being held in partnership with Congressman Dwight Evans, D-Phila.; Councilmembers Cindy Bass, Cherelle Parker and Derek Green; State Reps. Isabella Fitzgerald, D-Phila., Chris Rabb, D-Phila., and Darisha Parker, D-Phila.; and State Sens. Art Haywood, D-Montgomery/Phila. and Sharif Street, D-Phila.

Kinsey encourages the public to attend this follow-up to a public safety meeting he held with constituents in September. The purpose for this meeting is to talk about solutions and plans of action to combat the violence that continues throughout the city. There have been more than 430 homicides in 2021, a 15% increase from 2020.

Kinsey said it’s important to maintain an ongoing dialogue between residents and elected officials.

“It’s not only important that we listen to our people, particularly those who live in fear of their lives and the lives of their loved ones being taken away by nonsensical violence,” Kinsey said. “But we must also work together in our efforts to solving this crisis. That’s why you will see an all-hands on deck approach bringing together elected officials, law enforcement, support groups and community stakeholders, all coming together to develop a strategy that will ultimately save lives in our communities. We must understand their perspective and listen to any ideas they present.”

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw will be present to hear potential solutions that will be offered by the audience.

Support organizations that provide mental health and counseling support will also be on hand.

Kinsey said he also plans to invite Gov. Tom Wolf, PA Attorney General Josh Shapiro, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, Northwest Police Department Chief Inspector Jerreau Thomas, and the captains of the 14th and 35th Police districts to take part in this meeting.
