State Rep. Jessica Benham, D-Allegheny, announced today that Hilltop Urban Farm has received a $15,000 grant from the Department of Agriculture through the Pennsylvania Farm Bill’s Urban Agriculture Grant Program.
“Today’s announcement is great news for our local community,” Benham said. “This investment will improve our agriculture infrastructure and allow our families access to fresh foods grown right here in our backyard.”
The grant awarded to Hilltop Urban Farm will be used to construct a hoop house and planting tables.
According to Benham, the Urban Agriculture Grant Program funded 18 microgrants and 24 collaboration grants for projects that improve agriculture infrastructure in urban areas, the aggregation of product, sharing of resources, and support for community development efforts.
In total, $500,000 in funding was awarded through the Pennsylvania Farm Bill’s Urban Agriculture Grant Program.
