Delco lawmakers announce more than $500K in grants to improve parks, green spaces

HARRISBURG, Dec. 30 – State Reps. Mike Zabel and Gina Curry announced four Community Conservation Partnership grants totaling $544,200 have been approved to plan and improve parks and green spaces across the region. “The investments in parks and green spaces in Delaware County announced today will benefit all people in our community,” Zabel said. “These grants have the potential to have lasting multi-generational benefits by informed planning, limiting water pollution, managing stormwater runoff, addressing groundwater concerns, improving property values and providing residents of all ages outdoor recreation options.” The grants include: Upper Darby Township, $250,000 : Rehabilitation and further development of Observatory Hill Park. Renovation of field house restrooms, construction of basketball and pickleball courts, pavilion, picnic area, pedestrian walkways, internal loop trail, parking area and stormwater management measures; installation of play and fitness equipment with required safety surfacing, community garden and fencing; ADA access, and landscaping. Delaware County, $200,000 : Design for the development of approximately 0.5 miles of the Darby Creek Trail in Clifton Heights and Lansdowne and Upper Darby Township, from Kent Park in Upper Darby Township to Baltimore Pike in Lansdowne Borough. Haverford Township, $50,000 : Construction of approximately 5 acres of riparian forest buffers Read more
