Zabel encourages residents to donate at food drive Saturday, Dec. 5

DREXEL HILL, Nov. 16 – State Rep. Mike Zabel, D-Delaware, will cohost a Holiday Food Donation Drive from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5 at the Haverford Township Municipal Building. The township building is located at 1014 Darby Road in Havertown.

Zabel has organized the drive with the help of the Delaware County Department of Human Services. All items collected will be donated to Delaware County food pantries and Delaware County nonprofit organizations.

“It is beneficial for each of us to look out for our neighbors and fellow residents during this health pandemic, especially at a time when so many social and human services are struggling to keep up with demand,” Zabel said. “I am asking anyone who is able to donate items in order to help nonprofit organizations serve all our citizens in need during this difficult time.”

For the safety of the public, this collection will be a contactless drive, allowing residents to drive through the parking lot and remain in their cars. Volunteers will unload donated items from the trunks of vehicles.

Items needed include nonperishable food, dry goods, peanut butter, canned meats, canned tuna, stews, rice, beans, soup and cereal. Nonprofits are also in need of items not available for those using SNAP benefits, including paper towels, toilet paper, dish soap, laundry detergent, toothpaste, deodorant, bar soap, baby diapers, baby wipes, formula, hand sanitizer and cleaning wipes.

Any questions about the drive can be directed to Zabel’s offices in Drexel Hill at 484-200-8262 or Clifton Heights at 484-200-1563, or by emailing
