First public meetings on Perkiomen Mapping & Flood Mitigation Study begin next week

HARRISBURG, Nov. 8 – State Rep. Joe Webster shared today the notice of public meetings for developing the Perkiomen Mapping and Flood Mitigation Study which affects numerous legislative districts throughout southeastern Pennsylvania, including the 150th, 70th,146th, 147th, 130th,131st, 145th, and the 143rd Legislative Districts in Montgomery, Berks, Lehigh and Bucks counties.

Three public meetings are planned for Tuesday, Nov. 12 at the Upper Providence Township Building, Tuesday, Nov. 19 at the Pennridge North Middle School, and Thursday, Nov. 21 at the Upper Perkiomen Middle School. Doors open to the public at 6 p.m. with a formal presentation beginning at 7 p.m.

"I am grateful to the coalition of communities, experts and leaders who join me in my commitment to this project,” Webster said. “Holding these public meetings will help the community better understand the impact on our homes and neighborhoods and demonstrate how to properly address the major flooding issues that occur in our own backyards.”

The goals of the planning effort are to identify significant flooding locations throughout the 362-square-mile watershed, model the watershed to better understand the hydrology of areas that flood, develop conceptual solutions to help mitigate identified risks and arm communities with baseline information to pursue funding for project implementation, and engage the public and property owners to better understand stormwater and provide pathways for implementation of smaller-scale stormwater mitigation techniques on their own properties.

The Perkiomen Mapping and Flood Mitigation Study is expected to guide future flood mitigation efforts, helping communities throughout the watershed to better prepare for and respond to flood events.

Webster represents the 150th Legislative District, which includes Collegeville, Trappe, Lower and Upper Providence, and part of West Norriton along the Schuylkill River. He serves on the House Appropriations, Environmental Resources and Energy, Finance, State Government, and Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness committees.
