Over $5.3 million in violence prevention grants coming to Waxman’s district in Center City

Rep. Ben Waxman, D-Phila., has announced $5,353,082 in grant funding from the Violence Intervention & Prevention and the Building Opportunities Through Out-Of-School Time programs will support the following projects within the 182nd Legislative District:

  • $383,037 to Achieve Now
  • $499,930 to Boys and Girls Clubs of Philadelphia
  • $240,000 to Build Our Lives Together (BOLT)
  • $250,000 to Harlem Lacrosse - Philadelphia
  • $499,902 to Health Promotion Council of Southeastern Pennsylvania, Inc.
  • $500,000 to JEVS Human Services
  • $500,000 to Musicopia, Inc.
  • $500,000 to Philadelphia District Attorney's Office
  • $500,000 to Reading Allowed
  • $500,000 to The Defender Association of Philadelphia
  • $492,102 to The Philadelphia Academies, Inc.
  • $488,111 to Youth Sentencing & Reentry Project

“Investing in our communities is one of the most effective ways to prevent violence and create opportunity,” Waxman said. “This $5.3 million in funding will directly support organizations that are doing the day-to-day work of mentoring young people in making our neighborhoods safer. These grants are about giving people the tools they need to succeed and ensuring that every child in Philadelphia has access to safe programs outside of school.”

The purpose of the Violence Intervention & Prevention (VIP) program is to provide grants to address community violence. The purpose of the Building Opportunities Through Out-Of-School Time (BOOST) program is to expand OST structured programming opportunities for at-risk school-age youth.
