Waxman welcomes $5 million in state funding to district for redevelopment projects

HARRISBURG, Nov. 1 – Today, state Rep. Ben Waxman, D-Phila., announced that $5 million in state funding has been awarded for three projects in his legislative district in Center City Philadelphia.

This funding comes from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program -- a Pennsylvania grant program for the design, acquisition, and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects. RACP projects have a regional impact and generate substantial increases or maintain current levels of employment, tax revenues, or other measures of economic activity. RACP projects are state-funded projects that cannot obtain primary funding under other state programs.

The projects receiving this funding include:

  • $2.5 million for the Philadelphia School Lombard Building Renovation, which will create a learning space for STEAM allowing for the art, science, robotics, technology, Spanish, and music programs to be co-located, and integrated for students.

  • $2 million for renovations to the William Way LGBT Community Center, which will include construction work for the project, including the construction of the core and shell of the building, which includes the steel superstructure, concrete-topped metal decking, metal wall panels, fenestration and roofing system.

  • $500,000 for improvements to the Wilma Theater, including new doors, ceilings, and flooring for their main entrance.

"Today marks an exciting step forward for three incredible institutions that enrich our district," Waxman said. "Each of these projects will enhance vital services and spaces that bring people together, foster creativity, and support our community's growth. I look forward to seeing these projects come to life and the continued impact they will have for years to come."
