My Malt Beverage Tax Credit Bill Advances in the House!

I’m proud to announce that the House Finance Committee unanimously voted to advance House Bill 2340! My bill encourages full use of the malt beverage tax credit by extending the carryforward period and allowing sales to other malt beverage taxpayers. This bill would be a gamechanger for local brewers and keep more breweries in business. Now my bill moves to the full House for a vote!

Supporting Teacher Recruitment Efforts

The House Education Committee also unanimously voted to advance my bill addressing Pennsylvania’s teacher shortage. We must ensure that our classrooms are staffed with the talented teachers that our students deserve.

House Bill 2436 would redirect all teacher certification fees collected by the Pennsylvania Department of Education to be deposited into the state’s Talent Recruitment Account. The PDE would use these funds to offer direct support to teachers and strengthen recruitment and retention efforts.

The Talent Recruitment Account was established in 2022 but never funded. Establishing a dedicated funding stream for this account would be a meaningful step toward addressing the ongoing educator shortage.

Working to Address the Housing Crisis

The housing crisis is hitting hard: rising prices combined with not enough homes or apartments means that it’s harder than ever for people to find starter housing.

Getting more working families into starter homes is my priority as your State Rep. This week, I brought the Democratic Policy Committee to Allentown to find solutions. We toured Overlook Park and met with housing officials to see what can be done to take the success here and bring it to other communities.

Everything is on the line - when families can afford to live in a good home, everything from schools to crime to the economy improves.

Welcoming Hispanic Chambers of Commerce

In a historic first, the PA Legislative Latino Caucus had the pleasure of welcoming the various Hispanic Chambers of Commerce from across our Commonwealth. Our caucus will remain committed to strengthening and uplifting our Latino businesses and entrepreneurs.

I was proud to represent Lehigh Valley alongside Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of the Lehigh Valley Board Chair Yamelisa Jimenez Taveras. It was great to sit down with Yamelisa and discuss plans for working together.

I want to remind everyone of the important deadlines for the upcoming elections. Election Day is less than a month away, with the primary taking place on Tuesday, May 19. The deadline to register to vote is May 4. You can register today at vote.pa.gov/Register.

If you plan to vote by mail, the last day to apply for a mail-in or absentee ballot is May 12. You can apply for a mail-in or absentee ballot at vote.pa.gov/ApplyMailBallot.

Voting is the best way to ensure your voice is heard. Make sure you register today!
