COLLEGEVILLE, March 31 – For his March virtual town hall, state Rep. Joe Webster, D-Montgomery, hosted a panel discussion titled “Empowerment through Civic Engagement” from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 30. A replay of the town hall is available through his Facebook page.
“With an esteemed panel of experts, we will center our discussion on civic education and how it can be improved, the definition of citizenship and the benefits of civic engagement, and the possible barriers to participation and how we can address those barriers through community action,” Webster said before the event. “In short, our goal is to empower the people.”
Panelists included academics Dr. Joshua Weikert and Dr. Gene Halus, educator and local activist Dr. Monica D’Antonio, and former sports television producer turned issue-based campaign director Kadida Kenner.
“It’s not enough to have a theoretical debate about how we get people civically involved,” Webster said. “We need to address the reasons why so many people aren’t participating, and our panelists are among the best to guide that discussion.”
