Solomon commends passage of legislation to help business development

HARRISBURG, June 25 – State Rep. Jared Solomon, D-Phila., is commending a bipartisan effort for passing his amendment and moving legislation forward today that would make sure businesses have continued access to a critical online tool.

Solomon’s amendment to the bill (H.B. 1284), authored by Rep. Michael Peifer, R-Pike, would strengthen the Pennsylvania Business One-Stop Shop initiative – already put in place by Gov. Tom Wolf as a sole source to guide entrepreneurs and small businesses through all stages of development – by protecting it in a statute.

“The Department of Economic Development has already made fantastic progress since launching the One Stop Shop website back in February, which has had nearly 20,000 visits and 1,000 calls,” Solomon said. “Before, the idea was susceptible to change with a new administration.”

“With my amendment, though, this bill cuts through government red tape and ensures all administrations embrace the value of using this portal to enable business growth and job creation.”

One-Stop Shop includes resources for:

  • Planning a business;

  • Registration and permitting;

  • Hiring employees; and

  • Receiving funding and technical assistance.

H.B. 1284 is headed to the Senate for consideration.
