Rep. Snyder introduces bill to ‘beef up’ internet service in rural areas

During a public hearing in August to discuss the lack of high-speed internet service in Greene County, Rep. Pam Snyder said it was time for state lawmakers to demand internet providers “beef up their service” in rural areas. Snyder moved forward with that promise Tuesday by introducing legislation in the state House to upgrade the standard for broadband service in Pennsylvania to increase download and upload speeds for rural customers. Also, bridge work along McCracken Road in Aleppo Twp. will force a lane restriction for about 10 days, and almost 60 training videos are now available for direct-care workers and caregivers who work with seniors. Snyder: Telephone Town Hall poll shows aversion to property taxes

Rep. Pam Snyder reports that a poll during her Sept. 1 Telephone Town Hall shows respondents favor replacing property taxes with sales and personal income taxes by a better than 3-to-1 margin. Another poll question revealed that more than 80 percent of respondents to the poll favor no-excuse absentee voting and early voting mechanisms for elections, which her H.B. 521 would provide. CARMICHAELS, Aug. 18 – State Rep. Pam Snyder, D-Greene/Fayette/Washington, will serve as host for a House Democratic Policy Committee hearing on the opioid and heroin epidemic in Pennsylvania from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, in the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Hall, 1483 Jefferson Road, Jefferson. Requested by Snyder, the public hearing will be co-chaired by House Democratic Policy Chairman Mike Sturla, D-Lancaster. "I urge public participation to learn more about the addiction epidemic that is wreaking havoc throughout Pennsylvania," said Snyder, one of four legislators named to a Joint State Government Commission Task Force charged with tackling opioid abuse. "The deaths and devastation from this scourge will not subside without a comprehensive response." Snyder said the hearing will provide a local perspective on the magnitude of the problem and the strategies needed to counteract its deadly growth. "The epidemic is affecting everyone and its effects were highlighted by the recent report that southwestern Pennsylvania had had the highest drug death rate – almost 33 deaths per 100,000 population – in the state last year," Snyder said. "Heroin and related opioids are at the root of the devastation."
