Snyder reiterates support for Mon-Fayette Expressway
CARMICHAELS, June 5 – State Rep. Pam Snyder, D-Greene/Fayette/Washington, today emphasized her continued support for extending the Mon-Fayette Expressway 14 miles to the Interstate 376 – Parkway East – in Monroeville.
“Extending the expressway to Monroeville has been and remains the priority with me,” Snyder said. “Its completion is vital to Fayette County, eastern Greene County and the entire Mon Valley.”
Snyder said a recent letter to the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission erroneously listed her as supporting shifting construction funding from completing the expressway to a Southern Beltway wing that would link the expressway at Jefferson Hills with Pittsburgh International Airport.
The letter to the 10-county planning agency has since been corrected.
“I am not opposed to the beltway connector, but not at the expense of extending the expressway, a project long at the heart of rejuvenating southwestern Pennsylvania,” Snyder said. “Let’s get the expressway – the vital artery for the Mon Valley – completed before diverting attention and funding to branches that also merit support.”
Snyder said she stands with the Fayette County commissioners and state Sen. Pat Stefano, R-Fayette/Somerset/Westmoreland, in prioritizing completion of the northerly extension of the expressway to I-376.
“First extend the expressway, then focus on the beltway,” Snyder said. “That has been my position from the start, and I would hate to see any infrastructure funding for the region lost because of an ill-advised change of focus.”
