Snyder, commissioners sponsoring electronics collection June 14

Second of four recycling events set for Greene County Fairgrounds

CARMICHAELS, June 1 – State Rep. Pam Snyder, D-Greene/Fayette/Washington, today said the Greene County commissioners and her office will hold their second electronics collections event of the year from noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 14 at the Greene County Fairgrounds Arena.

“Our first event of the year in March was a tremendous success,” Snyder said. “Hundreds of residents lined up at the fairgrounds to safely dispose of their electronics, and we collected over 200 old televisions for safe disposal.”

Snyder said that she and Commissioners Blair Zimmerman, Dave Coder and Archie Trader plan two more events after the June 14 collection – from noon to 3 p.m. on Aug. 30 and Oct. 18 at the fairgrounds.

Among electronic items accepted by JVS Environmental are computers -- including laptops, as well as computer components such as printers and monitors -- video cassette recorders, stereos, cameras, telephones, electronic cables, games and calculators.

Only one television per vehicle load can be accepted at each event. Some waste-handling fees may apply for items such as fluorescent lighting tubes and items containing Freon.

Items not accepted include sweepers, hair dryers, sewing machines, compact discs, alkaline batteries, smoke detectors and thermostats.

Residents with questions may call Snyder’s office at 724-966-8953.
