Shusterman celebrates $1.3 million in sidewalk grants

PAOLI, May 12 – State Rep. Melissa Shusterman, D-Chester, announced today that $1.3 million in Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside grants have been awarded to Tredyffrin Township.

The township will use the funds to install 1,550 feet of sidewalk along Valley Forge Road and Swedesford Road and provide connections to Valley Forge Middle School, Gateway Shopping Center and the Chester Valley Trail via Valley Road as part of the Gateway Multimodal Connections project.

“Further development of pedestrian walkways in this corridor is vital to the safety of our community,” Shusterman said. “I am grateful to PennDOT for providing funding for this project and for their continued support of our growing community. I am also thankful to Tredyffrin Township for continuing to prioritize the safety of our children and neighbors. This is a much-needed update that will connect our communities!”

The funding for this project comes from the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law of 2021, which PennDOT then awards to municipalities. Activities and projects defined as transportation alternatives include on- and off-road pedestrian and bicycle facilities, infrastructure projects for improving non-driver access to public transportation and enhanced mobility, community improvement activities, environmental mitigation, trails that serve a transportation purpose and safe routes to school projects.
