Today state Rep. Pete Schweyer was sworn in to serve his sixth term serving the people of Lehigh County in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
“It has been the honor of my life to work for you, and I’m proud to get back on the job fighting to cut costs for working families, make sure every kid has a great school, improve the lives of our seniors, and make sure everyone can afford to see a doctor when they get sick,” said Schweyer, D-Lehigh. “We got a lot of stuff done, and there’s so much more we’ll be working to accomplish for the Lehigh Valley.
“While I’m proud of what’s been done in Harrisburg to help every Pennsylvanian, I’m most proud of how many of our friends and neighbors we’ve helped at my office at 2132 South 12th Street in the city. We’ve helped keep hundreds of our older friends and neighbors with the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program. We’ve cut red tape for families needing vital state services. We’ve made government work harder for the people – and we always will.”
Schweyer was once again named majority chair of the Pa. House Education Committee, charged with advancing bills to help kids, parents, teachers and homeowners across the state. Last term he also served on the Basic Education Funding Commission, which delivered a fundamental reimagining of how the state pays for schools, with special emphasis on school districts like Allentown, with older buildings and a limited tax base compared to suburban schools. Schweyer’s work there, and as education chair, helped deliver record funding and a reallocation to make sure the funding goes where it has the most impact.
Schweyer was first elected in 2014 after serving multiple terms on Allentown City Council and lives in South Allentown with his family.
