Rep. Peter G. Schweyer February 26, 2020 | 4:21 PM
HARRISBURG, Feb. 26 – Allentown School District will undertake additional school safety improvements thanks in part to a $45,000 state grant that was approved today, announced state Reps. Mike Schlossberg and Peter Schweyer.
The grants will be used for security planning and the purchase of security-related technology, staff training programs and costs associated with training school resource officers and school police officers.
“It’s unfortunate that we even need a grant program like this one, but that is what we face in today’s society where guns are all too common on our streets and students face emotional difficulties without adequate counseling services available to them,” Schlossberg said.
“Kids need a secure, supportive atmosphere in order to learn. The funding announced today will enable our schools to address any safety-related needs they have identified so that our kids can learn in the safe environment they deserve,” Schweyer said.
The funding was provided by The School Safety and Security Committee established within the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.
