Sappey to host ‘Walk, Learn and Play: Streams in the 158th’

KENNETT SQUARE, April 18 – State Rep. Christina Sappey, D-Chester, invites residents of the 158th Legislative District to join her from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 23 to celebrate Earth Day at Stroud Water Research Center. This free, family-friendly event includes a guided nature walk along the White Clay Creek and fun hands-on activities led by Stroud water experts.

The event will focus on how residents can use nature, such as the presence of specific animals and plants, to determine stream health and safeguard water sources from pollution.

Sappey is a co-sponsor of House Bill 714, a bill that would help keep our waterways clean by protecting riparian buffers. Riparian buffers are planted barriers alongside streams that filter pollution from stormwater runoff and also mitigate flooding of homes and businesses by reinforcing stream banks.

“I am pleased to host this interactive event,” said Sappey. “This is a great opportunity to learn about local stream habitats and how to protect them. Getting an up-close look at the natural world around us helps underscore the need to actively care for our environment.”

Dr. David Arscott, Stroud executive director and research scientist, stated "We look forward to this Earth Day event and sharing details about stream health and restoration as we hike along the banks of White Clay Creek at the Stroud Water Research Center.”

All ages are welcome. Please RSVP by calling Rep. Sappey’s office at 484-200-8264 or emailing repsappey@pahouse.net
