Brown applauds over $11 million in grant funding for community projects

HARRISBURG, Nov. 4 – State Rep. Amen Brown, D-Phila., applauded the award of over $11 million in Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grant funding to multiple area nonprofits for their redevelopment projects.

“I am so proud of the more than $11 million in state grant funding that will be coming to our district and am excited for how these funds will contribute to our slice of Philly being a place where people can grow and businesses can thrive,” Brown said. “These awards are an investment from the commonwealth into our community, the places and the people that make West Philadelphia where we call home.”

Projects receiving funding include:

  • $500,000 to University Place Associates 3.0, LLC for the 3.0 University Places Ben Franklin Innovation and Community Impact Center III project, which will be used to build out the Ben Franklin Innovation and Community Impact Center.
  • $750,000 to Brandywine 3151 Market, LP for the 3151 Market Street project, which will go toward MEP-related improvements.
  • $450,000 to Amina Ocean for the Amina Ocean project, which will launch a restaurant and catering business at 41st and Market.
  • $200,000 to Work to Ride, Inc. for the Chamounix Stables Refurbishment and Indoor Riding Arena Build project, which will assist with refurbishing the Chamounix Equestrian facility and construction of an indoor riding arena.
  • $1.7 million to Philadelphia Museum of Art for the Fire and Life Safety at Philadelphia Museum of Art II project, which will update the remaining fire and life safety systems at the Philadelphia Museum of Art's main building.
  • $3 million to the Franklin Institute for the Franklin Institute Master Plan III project, which includes design costs, and construction that includes: Upgrades to existing building systems and infrastructure, including electrical, mechanical, fire protection, digital infrastructure work and more.
  • $3 million to the Philadelphia Zoo for the Philadelphia Zoo Bear Country project, which will increase the available space for bears by 40%, providing them with more opportunities for natural behavior, while providing guests with a greater variety of opportunities to observe bears.
  • $900,000 to the Urban League of Philadelphia for the Urban League of Philadelphia West Phila Satellite Location project, which will allow UPL to acquire property to renovate.
  • $250,000 to The Salvation Army for the West Philadelphia Corps 5501 Market St. project, which will assist with bathroom demolition and renovation.
  • $600,000 to Westpark Community Partners LLC for the Westpark Redevelopment 2024 project, which will entail significant infrastructure updates to reconnect Westpark to the adjacent street grid, local public transportation, and the fabric of West Philadelphia, redevelopment of the existing towers and more.

The Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program is a Pennsylvania grant program for the design, acquisition, and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects. RACP projects have a regional impact and generate substantial increases or maintain current levels of employment, tax revenues, or other measures of economic activity. RACP projects are state-funded projects that cannot obtain primary funding under other state programs.
