PUC sets hearings on CUPA proposed rate increases

The PA Public Utility Commission (PUC) has scheduled six public input hearings to gather information from ratepayers regarding Community Utilities of Pennsylvania Inc.’s (CUPA) proposed rate increases for its water and wastewater customers.

The Office of Consumer Advocate (OCA) has filed a complaint in this proceeding and is actively challenging CUPA’s request for rate increases. The OCA represents consumer interests and encourages all customers affected by the proposed rate increase to participate in the public input hearings.

Here are some important details about the hearings:

• There will be 4 in-person hearings (afternoon and evening) held at 2 different locations: Bethlehem and Tamiment.
• There will be 2 telephonic hearings. The last day to register is by noon on Jan. 30.
• If you have any hearing exhibits that you will refer to during either the in-person or telephonic hearings, please email them to the OCA at consumer@paoca.org  by Jan. 29 for in-person hearings or by Jan. 30 for telephonic hearings.

If you wish to testify at the telephonic public input hearings, you must pre-register with the Office of Consumer Advocate by noon on Jan. 30, 2024. *Please note preregistration is not required for the in-person hearings but is encouraged.*

(1) your first and last name

(2) the utility name (Community Utilities of Pennsylvania)

(3) the date and time of the public input hearing where you want to testify;

(4) the phone number you will be using to call into a telephonic public input hearing

(5) a phone number where you can be reached before the hearing if OCA needs to contact you

(6) your email address (if you have one), and

(7) if you require an interpreter to participate in the hearing, the language of the interpreter
