Probst announces passage of 2026-27 state budget, delivering local investments without tax increases
Rep. Tarah Probst July 13, 2026 | 11:39 AM
HARRSISBURG, July 13 – State Rep. Tarah Probst today announced the passage and signing of Pennsylvania’s 2026-27 state budget, highlighting significant investments in local schools, affordability initiatives, public safety and economic opportunity -- all while avoiding broad-based tax increases.
“This budget delivers real results for Pennsylvanians while respecting taxpayers,” Probst said. “We made important investments in our schools, communities and families without placing additional broad-based tax burdens on working people. I am proud of the victories this budget delivers for our region.”
A major component of the budget is continued support for public education. The 2026-27 budget provides historic investments in schools across Pennsylvania, including:
- A $6 million increase for the East Stroudsburg Area School District.
- A $2.6 million increase for the Stroudsburg Area School District.
- A $214,000 increase for the Delaware Valley School District.
“These investments ensure our local schools have the resources needed to support students, strengthen classrooms and provide opportunities for success,” Probst said. “Our students, educators and families benefit when we make education a priority.”
The budget also provides important wins for communities throughout Pennsylvania, including:
- Investments to make life more affordable for working families.
- Support for workforce development, small businesses and economic growth.
- Increased resources for public safety and first responders.
- Continued investments in safer and healthier communities.
- Support for seniors, veterans and public servants.
The budget includes targeted cost-of-living adjustments for certain retired public servants who have dedicated their careers to serving Pennsylvania. The COLA provisions apply only to:
- Police officers and firefighters who retired at least five years ago; and
- Public school employees and state employees who retired before July 2, 2001.
“These retirement adjustments recognize the commitment and sacrifice of public servants who spent decades serving our communities,” Probst said. “At the same time, this budget maintains a responsible approach to taxpayer dollars.”
The 2026-27 budget continues a commitment to strengthening Pennsylvania through investments in education, affordability, public safety and economic opportunity.
“This budget is about delivering practical solutions that improve people’s everyday lives,” Probst said. “We are investing in our communities, supporting families and building a stronger Pennsylvania — without raising broad-based taxes.”
Probst represents the 189th Legislative District, which includes Delaware Water Gap, East Stroudsburg and Stroudsburg boroughs in Monroe County, as well as Stroud, Smithfield and Middle Smithfield townships in Monroe, and Lehman, Porter and Delaware townships in Pike County.
