Probst invites residents to discuss I-80 expansion

HARRISBURG, Oct. 27 – State Rep. Tarah Probst is encouraging residents to join her for a Nov. 9 town hall conversation about the negative impacts of the proposed expansion of I-80.

“I have been concerned about this project since my time as mayor of Stroudsburg and I continue to believe that expanding the highway will have many detrimental effects on the borough and surrounding communities,” said Probst, D-Monroe/Pike. “I set up this town hall so everyone can be aware of what will happen to our area if I-80 is expanded as currently proposed by PennDOT.”

According to Probst, potential negative effects include:

  • Two exits will close.
  • Emergency service response time will increase.
  • Main Street gridlock will occur.
  • Borough, school, and library taxes will increase for residents.
  • Large sound walls will be built.
  • Access to hospitals will diminish.
  • Local businesses will suffer.
  • Eminent domain will lower home values.

The free event will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 9 in the Stroudsburg High School Auditorium, located at 1100 W. Main St. in Stroudsburg. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.

Joining Probst for the town hall will be officials from Stroudsburg borough, emergency services, business owners and more.

She also said a representative from the Governor’s Office will be in attendance to listen to the concerns of attendees.
