The Dobbs decision, coupled with the current presidential administration, has placed an immeasurable burden on mothers and birthing individuals across the country.
Many Americans have to travel long distances to receive reproductive care, and it’s still far too common for them to encounter harassment and violence when seeking out these reproductive and abortion health services. To protect these neighbors in Pennsylvania, I’ve introduced a new bill to keep them safe.
My legislation, House Bill 670, would establish a state version of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act. The FACE Act, originally signed into law by President Clinton 20 years ago, prohibits intimidation, obstruction, and violence against the visitors and healthcare professionals of reproductive healthcare clinics. These protections apply at any location which provides reproductive healthcare services. It’s necessary to provide these protections at the state level when we may no longer be able to count on our federal officials to uphold the law.
All efforts must be made to not only keep reproductive healthcare readily accessible, but to keep both patients and providers safe during these processes. Intolerance of any kind runs counter to the constitutional rights of residents and has no place in this Commonwealth, and it is my privilege and duty to protect the rights of all Pennsylvanians.
