Pielli to award citation to resident celebrating 100th birthday

WEST CHESTER, Sept. 18 – State Rep. Chris Pielli, D-Chester, said he is excited to announce that he will be awarding a citation to Anne O’Brien for her upcoming 100th birthday. Pielli will celebrate with O'Brien at a party hosted by The Hickman Senior Living Community in West Chester at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20.

Anne O'Brien was born in Pottsville, PA on Sept. 22, 1924, to the late Charles and Mary Feinauer. The youngest of six children, Anne is the last surviving member of her immediate family, which includes her siblings Dorothy Gittleman, Charles Feinauer, Peg O'Donnell, Joe Feinauer, and Mary Naylor.

After graduating from Pottsville Catholic High School in 1942, Anne began her career typing dictation at the county courthouse. Shortly thereafter, Anne contributed to our nation’s war effort working as a claims specialist at Fort Indiantown Gap during World War II. Anne and her late husband Joe moved to West Chester in 1960, where they raised their eight children: Kathy Derr, Tom, Patti, Muff, Joe, Michael, and Peg. Sadly, her son John passed away at age 24 in 1973. Today, Anne is proud to be the grandmother of 16 grandchildren and the great-grandmother of 12 great-grandchildren.

After dedicating years to raising her family, Anne resumed her career with Nationwide Insurance in West Chester. A longtime and active member of St. Agnes Church, she also volunteered at Chester County Hospital following her retirement.

Anne remains active and enjoys reading, solving crossword puzzles, and spending time with therapy dogs that visit The Hickman. One of her favorite pastimes is going out for ice cream with her family and friends.

“Anne is one of those outstanding Americans belonging to our ‘Greatest Generation,’” Pielli said. “It’s an honor and privilege to recognize good folks like Anne who through the years raised a family; contributed her talents to our business community, local organizations, and charities; and helped our country in time of need during World War II. We owe a lot to folks like Anne -- everyday citizens who give much and who have helped shape the wonderful community we now enjoy. Happy Birthday, Anne!”
