Pielli appointed secretary of Pa. House Judiciary Committee

HARRISBURG, March 6 – State Rep. Chris Pielli, D-Chester, has been appointed secretary of the Pennsylvania House Judiciary Committee.

Pielli comes from a strong legal background, including practicing as an attorney for the Chester County Public Defender’s Office and for several other law firms. While serving in the U.S. Army, Pielli was a member of the JAG Corps as a legal specialist for six years. Pielli is also a member of the bar in Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey.

“I am incredibly grateful to our leadership to be appointed to this position,” Pielli said. “I look forward to working with Majority Chairman Tim Briggs and the rest of my fellow committee members to help ensure what is passed out of the House is truly just, equitable and effective in helping people throughout the commonwealth.”

In its first order of business, the committee met Wednesday to consider three bills that would provide survivors of childhood sexual abuse a window to justice. The committee amended S.B. 1 by removing language not related to the constitutional amendment that would suspend the statute of limitations to enable survivors of childhood sexual abuse to file civil actions. The committee also approved regular-session H.B. 1 and H.B. 2, measures with identical language to bills that passed the House in special session last week.  

The committee will hold a public hearing on the window to justice for survivors of childhood sexual abuse at a later date to be announced.
