Lawmakers launch bipartisan Pennsylvania Charitable Nonprofit Caucus

Co-chairs to include Reps. Salisbury and Hogan, Sens. Costa and Culver

HARRISBURG, June 21 – State Rep. Abigail Salisbury joined colleagues for a news conference in the Capitol Rotunda today to launch the Pennsylvania Charitable Nonprofit Caucus – a bicameral, bipartisan group formed to support and promote the commonwealth’s thousands of charitable nonprofit organizations.

Salisbury – who will co-chair the caucus with Rep. Joe Hogan, Sen. Jay Costa and Sen. Lynda Schlegel Culver – said the new group will help ensure that Pennsylvania’s charitable nonprofits have the legislative support they need to continue their essential work, which strengthens communities and bolsters small businesses.

“The work of charitable nonprofits touches nearly every aspect of community life, from fighting food insecurity to supporting local libraries to providing disaster relief and other critical services,” said Salisbury, D-Allegheny. “These organizations also create hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvania jobs and play a huge role in supporting local businesses.

“As legislators, we need to do everything we can to keep these catalysts for good growing and thriving. Our newly launched bicameral, bipartisan Pennsylvania Charitable Nonprofit Caucus will bring together lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to make that happen.”

“Nonprofits play a critical role in our community serving our friends and neighbors in need,” said Costa, D-Allegheny. “I look forward to championing legislative actions that will ensure our nonprofits are supported, funded and set up for success.”

“By working together in a bipartisan, bicameral basis to address the needs of community nonprofits, this caucus is sending a strong message that Harrisburg can and does find ways to come together,” said Hogan, R-Bucks County. “I’m excited about this opportunity and look forward to serving with my colleagues as champions for our community non-profit organizations.”

“Pennsylvania’s charitable non-profit organizations serve a critical role in communities all across the commonwealth,” said Culver, R-Snyder/Montour/Northumberland/Columbia/Luzerne. “These nonprofits provide invaluable support to many individuals and organizations who would otherwise struggle or go without the help they so desperately need. As an elected official, I am honored to offer my voice and support along with my colleagues to these organizations who do so much good for so many people.”
