O’Mara announces committee appointments for second term

HARRISBURG, Jan. 11 – State Rep. Jennifer O’Mara, D-Delaware, today received four committee assignments for the 2021-22 legislative session. She will return to two committees that she served on last session as well as begin work with two new committees.

“I am thrilled to announce my new committee assignments for the 2021-22 legislative session. The committees I’m joining are reflective of some of my priorities as a legislator — to support our first responders, to protect workers, to fund critical infrastructure investments, and to make sure our state is acting in a fiscally responsible way,” O’Mara said.

O’Mara is now a member of the following committees for the 2021-22 legislative session. Asterisks indicate committees that she served on in her first term and will return to:

  • *Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness: Reviews legislation concerning Pennsylvanians who serve and have served in the U.S. armed forces, Pennsylvania National Guard, and firefighting, emergency medical, emergency management, and homeland security services.

  • Finance: Reviews bills relating to all financial matters for the state. Tax collection rates and policies are regularly reviewed, as well as policies that create or build on programs financed by the state.

  • Labor and Industry: Reviews legislation on issues such as the state’s minimum wage, unemployment compensation, workers’ compensation, building and construction codes, and workplace health and safety. The committee is responsible for oversight of the Department of Labor and Industry, State Civil Service Commission, Labor Relations Board, Unemployment Compensation Appeals Board of Review, Industrial Board, Workers’ Compensation Appeal Board, and the Office for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired.

  • *Transportation: Reviews legislation relating to all modes of transportation in the commonwealth, including highways, airports, train service, public transit, ports, the Turnpike Commission, the State Transportation Commission and the operations of the Department of Transportation.

“Our committee work is the backbone of our jobs as legislators. It is through committees that we work in a bipartisan way to advance legislation to the full House,” O’Mara said. “I look forward to getting started and working together to pass legislation that supports the people in my district and across the state.”
