O'Mara, state lawmakers announce grant for Delaware County Historical Society

HARRISBURG, March 5 – Delaware County state Reps. Margo Davidson, Jennifer O’Mara and Brian Kirkland today announced a grant has been approved for the Delaware County Historical Society for $4,000 through the Cultural and Historical Support Grant Program.

“As a proud board member of the Delaware County Historical Society, I’m grateful to see these state funds benefitting our community,” O’Mara said. “The historical society helps illustrate the roots of Delaware County’s culture by sharing stories and artifacts dating as far back as the Civil War. This grant will help preserve our history for years to come so residents can continue to study and learn from our past.”

The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission administers the Cultural and Historical Support Grant Program to provide financial support to museums and official county historical societies otherwise not supported by other state programs.

“Our historical society preserves the stories of our communities and the life work of our residents – an important service they’ve been providing for more than 100 years,” said Davidson, who chairs the House Democratic Southeast Delegation. “These state grants will help them continue the work that will benefit our community today, tomorrow and, we all hope, for generations to come.”

The Historical and Museum Commission received 153 applications for the grant program this year, with 58 of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties receiving funding.

Kirkland said, “This grant will help a historical society that not only preserves the history of our communities and hometowns, but it also educates thousands of fourth- and fifth-graders each year through its Passport to History Program.”
