HARRISBURG, March 9 – With a proven track record of standing up to defend democracy and advocating for smart changes to Pennsylvania election laws, state Rep. Scott Conklin, D-Centre, today was confirmed as the majority chair of the House State Government Committee.
“After spending the last two years standing up for our state’s democracy and election laws against attempts to undermine them, I am honored that I have been confirmed as our party’s leader of this important committee,” Conklin said. “As the majority committee chair it will be up to me to set the agenda for the next two years, and I look forward to working with all of the members of our committee – Democrat and Republican alike – to pass smart, sensible policies and lead a committee that works for all citizens of Pennsylvania in a dignified, honest and forthright manner.”
In the House, the State Government Committee primarily reviews legislation on issues ranging from voting and elections to campaign finance reform and oversees various state agencies, including the Pennsylvania Department of State, the Pennsylvania Department of General Services, the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, the Public Employees’ Retirement System, the State Employees’ Retirement System, and the Independent Regulatory Review Commission.
“We have a number of issues that our commonwealth will have to address in the coming years, and I am dedicated to tackling those issues head-on,” Conklin said. “I am hopeful that House Republicans will join me in seeking bipartisan solutions to these issues and work with me to build a Pennsylvania that doesn’t just work for a few, but everyone.”
